Visual Paradigm Project Explorer: Enhanced QueryBase Tools Announcement

A professional 16:9 hero banner divided into two sections. The left side is a deep blue gradient featuring bold text: 'VISUAL PARADIGM QUERYBASE: UNLOCK MODEL INTELLIGENCE' with a subtitle detailing 'Hierarchical & Model Queries.' The right side merges seamlessly into a vibrant, glowing 3D graph network of nodes, icons, and relationship lines over a stylized cityscape. The network visualizes complex data structures like 'Actors', 'Use Cases', 'Associations', 'Classes', and 'Attributes', with a stylized hand made of light selecting an 'Actor -> Association -> Use Case' path. No brand logos are present.

We are excited to announce a major enhancement to Visual Paradigm QueryBase. Built to serve as an agile, web-based model intelligence and data mining platform, QueryBase gives software architects, business analysts, system analysts, and QA leads instant access to deep architectural data stored within Visual Paradigm Cloud workspaces.

Until today, users relied on QueryBase primarily for visual inspection and navigation. Today, we are officially expanding QueryBase by introducing two powerful advanced query engines:

  • QueryBase Hierarchical Queries
  • QueryBase Model Queries

Together with our flagship Visual Paradigm project explorer capability, these new tools transform static model repositories into dynamic, queryable metadata hubs designed for structured JSON data extraction, impact analysis, automated reporting, and enterprise system integration.

What is Visual Paradigm QueryBase?

For those new to the platform, Visual Paradigm QueryBase is a zero-footprint web application that operates entirely in your browser. It allows stakeholders to inspect, trace, filter, and extract complex UML, SysML, BPMN, and ArchiMate models without installing Visual Paradigm Desktop locally.

QueryBase bridges the gap between desktop modeling environments and cloud-based analytical workflows:

  1. Visual Paradigm Desktop: Where engineers, analysts, and architects create diagrams and model elements.
  2. Visual Paradigm Cloud Workspace: The central cloud repository synchronization layer.
  3. QueryBase Cloud Engine: The analytical web layer that interprets stored structures and runs high-speed graph traversals and structured queries over web protocols.

The Core Toolset: How the 2 New Features Extend QueryBase

QueryBase now offers a complete three-tier exploration and data extraction architecture. Here is how the original Visual Paradigm project explorer and the two new tools work together to bring unmatched intelligence to your workspace.

1. Visual Paradigm Project Explorer (Model Browsing & Inspection)

The Visual Paradigm project explorer serves as your primary web browser for models, diagrams, shapes, connectors, and specifications.

  • Browser-Based Inspection: Allows non-desktop users and executives to inspect project models in real time.
  • Breadcrumb Context Tracking: Easily switch contexts across Workspace > Project > Diagram > Element/Shape.
  • Conditional Model Search & Direct Content Jump: Query elements conditionally by type or string, then click any result to jump directly to its position inside the visual diagram.

2. NEW: QueryBase Hierarchical Queries (Nested JSON Data Extraction)

The newly added Hierarchical Queries tool is a structured extraction engine designed to output precise JSON representations of nested model hierarchies.

  • Nested Target Filtering: Set multi-level conditions across Projects, Diagrams, Diagram Elements, and Sub-Elements (such as attributes, operations, and tags).
  • Custom Property Filtering: Choose exact metadata fields to include or exclude, giving you total control over property visibility.
  • Structured JSON Output: Automatically generates clean JSON following a strict path: Project → Diagram → Diagram Element → Properties/Sub-Elements.
  • Why It’s Useful: Eliminates manual data copying. System architects can instantly export structured model specs directly into third-party code generation pipelines, documentation tools, or database schemas.

3. NEW: QueryBase Model Queries (Multi-Hop Graph Traversal)

The new Model Queries tool introduces a progressive, chained graph-query engine built to traverse connected model elements and deep relationships.

  • Chained Query Builder: Construct multi-step query chains that follow dependencies across diagrams and subsystems.
  • Multi-Step Graph Traversal Example:
    1. Step 1 (Element Query): Find all Actors containing the name “Customer”.
    2. Step 2 (Relationship Query): Automatically retrieve all Association relationships linked to those Actors.
    3. Step 3 (Target Element Query): Extract all Use Cases attached to those Associations.
  • Deep Architectural Traceability: Trace cross-diagram dependencies, calculate system boundaries, and conduct real-time impact analysis.
  • Why It’s Useful: Solves the age-old problem of hidden architectural dependencies. Analysts and QA leads can trace end-to-end data flows across complex systems in seconds rather than manually hunting through dozens of individual diagrams.

Interactive Showcases: See QueryBase in Action

Want to see how the Visual Paradigm project explorer, Hierarchical Queries, and Model Queries function in real-world scenarios? Explore our live demo workspaces below. To switch between query engines inside any demo workspace, click the Tools menu in the top-right corner and select Query by Model or Query by Hierarchy.

Showcase 1: Library Management System

Persona: Zoe, Senior Systems Analyst
Goal: Inspect technical implementation details for book lending workflows to verify compliance with updated security policies.
Solution: Uses the Visual Paradigm project explorer to quickly inspect security specifications and relationship connections directly in the browser.
